LICENSED EMDR CLINICIANS
The purpose of the therapeutic relationship is to assist you in therapy to change your life. Create more peace, emotional and mental well-being in ways that are right for you.
Using clinically tested and evidenced-based treatment
in a safe, open, and non-judgmental atmosphere you can be at ease and the process of healing can begin.
The process has many elements, with the trauma or other distressing life experiences being just one thread among many in life, consisting of self, family, community, meaningful activity, purpose and more.
Trauma is often the result of a deeply distressing or disturbing experience, an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one's ability to cope, or integrate the emotions involved with that experience. Some examples, auto accidents, fires, natural disasters, physical and sexual assaults, childhood abuse, being humiliating or embarrassed, divorce, death of a loved one, etc. Sometimes there are stressful events like moving, career dissatisfaction, caring for aging parent (s), empty nest.
Working together you can develop tools, learn to make decisions and choices which will help produce the best results for you to walk the path toward healing in your own way.
“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”
One form of treatment used for mental disorders is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a psychotherapy (using psychological rather than medical methods) developed by Francine Shapiro starting in 1988.
It is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, depression, grief, anxiety, panic, eating disorders, addiction, and many more.
EMDR therapy helps the brain process and resolve unprocessed traumatic memories and allows normal healing to resume.
When disturbing experiences happen sometimes the brain can have a hard time putting all the pieces together and as a result, things that people say or do or things that they see, hear, smell or touch can bring up the mixed-up distressing thoughts, feelings and body sensations connected to those disturbing experiences. EMDR helps the brain put all the pieces together so the disturbing stuff can resolve and the good stuff or the things we learned from it can stay so we get stronger.
The experience is still remembered, but the fight, flight, faint, freeze, fidget response from the original event(s) is resolved.
